Bahri Kutlu

Managing Partner | Drilling Engineering & Analytics

Bahri Kutlu

Bahri Kutlu is Managing Partner at 360 Drilling Consultants and a drilling engineer with more than 15 years of experience spanning well design, real-time operations, drilling performance optimization, data analytics, and software development.

He began his career in 2009 as a Drilling Fluids Engineer before moving into real-time drilling operations and engineering with Apache Corporation. As a Drilling Operations Center Team Lead and later a Drilling Engineer, Bahri supported unconventional drilling programs across West Texas, combining engineering analysis, real-time surveillance, and workflow automation to improve execution and reduce well costs. His work contributed to substantial cost reductions in the Alpine High program and established the data-driven approach that has remained central to his career.

Since then, Bahri has been involved in the design, execution, and performance analysis of more than 70 horizontal wells. His recent drilling work includes complex Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk wells involving pilot holes, rotary steerable systems, extended laterals, faulted geology, sidetracks, and real-time directional and drilling-performance optimization. He works closely with drilling operations, directional teams, geosteering, geology, and service companies to translate real-time data into practical operational decisions.

Bahri is also the founder of DrillingMetrics, where he develops engineering analytics and AI-enabled software for drilling operations. His work combines traditional drilling engineering with high-frequency rig data, automated event detection, offset analysis, engineering models, and AI-assisted knowledge retrieval to help engineering and operations teams identify dysfunction, understand performance, and make faster decisions from their data.

His broader experience includes hydraulic-fracturing analytics, real-time completions data, and multidisciplinary subsurface and operational workflows, giving him a practical understanding of the full well-delivery process.

Bahri holds a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Middle East Technical University and an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa. He is also the author of multiple technical publications, including JERT-14-1352 and SPE-191797-MS.

At 360 Drilling Consultants, Bahri focuses on bringing together experienced drilling engineering, real-time operational support, data analytics, and modern technology to help operators drill safer, faster, and more efficiently.
